Change in the Making

Not in a hundred years has an election received so much attention as the race between John McCain and Barack Obama for their beloved country. Many people from around the world are flocking to America in order to be apart of a historical event. On January 20,2009, Barack Obama, the 44th President of United States took his position in office. He is the first African American to be elected as president in the United States. Now that he is in position to begin the things he promised during his campaign, Obama has a lot to accomplish for our economy that is decaying. Knowing that our crisis will not be solved over night, we must be patient in order to have balance.

The Bielski Brothers and their community !

The Bielski brothers led the largest armed rescue operation of Jews by Jews in World War II. The forests were they played as young boys is where they formed a community that numbered 1250 Jews. With Tuvia as commander of this partisan group, no Jewish refugee was turned away. Every person, including the elderly, women, the sick and children were invited to join them in the forest. It is through his leadership, as well as that of his brothers, Zus and Asael, that the group survived starvation, harsh winters and the threat of the Germans. The existence of and the survival of this group challenges the image of European Jews as passive victims.

When I was reading about the things that the brothers had accomplished it touched my heart because if they were not so brave many more Jews would have lost their lives. Knowing that they risked their own lives to save others is unbelievable and people should take this event and think about others before thinking of themselves. If everyone stuck together like this then a lot of people would help others in need no matter what kind of help it may be. In order to understand what I am talking bout you will have to see it yourself at The Florida Holocaust Museum located downtown St.Pete because everyone is not affected the same.

Memory or Remembrance

I think that both words memory and remembrance are different; memory is when a person recollects the past and remembrance is when a person acknowledging certain turning points in history. There are a lot of controversies between using memory and remembrance with history. Many believe history is more honoring than recollections and others believe it is both. In the reading Winter he speaks about the facets of both memory and remembrance and how they involve certain type of professions in the argument. Winter believes recollecting the past is what helps us solve war trauma and our future problems. He states remembrance is what the twentieth century is doing more than in the 1900's, events were more memories than remembrance.

There are some pictures all over so see if you can tell if its memory or remembrance!!

Just Thoughts

Sometimes I ask myself why would someone really want to join the military without really knowing if the things they say they gone do is true. What kind of speech do a commander has to give in order to get his troops motivated to take another persons life or to just carry out a mission. Do the troops think about the things they are told to do or even think about a person's family. It seems that many people do not really think hard about what it is that they are signing up for, just imagine if they did. I think the number of soldiers in the military now would have been alot fewer today if everyone took the time to really think. Most people join because of their family traditions that all the men in the family has to join the army, but maybe that's not the case so what is.

Imagine if we was at war now and our troops were not prepared for this war, how many soldiers do you think will suffer from some kind of trauma. Trauma is told to be something unexpected happening and this could be a sign of it, but no one would know until the war is over. People who survive these types of things are the ones passionate about fighting for their country. The others because it's what they can do only in a war which is taking another persons life without being sent to prison for murder. I also can say that no one really knows I could be right for some of them and wrong about the others. On this final note think about this question and see how many answers you receive: Are all the benefits that the government promises and the honor truly worth your insanity?

The Day at the Museum

After visiting the American Museum I saw some interesting things that I never seen before or even knew about before going. They did not just have small hand guns, they had a wide rang of firearms from the rifles to the rocket launcher and from the landmines to the different kinds of grenades. The things that shocked me the most was that the older guns and automobiles that were in the glass cases or on display still performed well after fifty years. They showed the different types of uniforms that the soldiers wore during the many generation of the military. Seeing the different things that the soldiers used during combat, I found interesting because I have never seen anything like it up close and personal. They also displayed different house tools and personals that the soldier used while out such as compass, dog tags, foot powder, tobacco, razor, glasses, bible and first aid pouches.

The museum did not just have materials from the Americans, they also had materials from the Germans and the Japanese army's. They had a lot of displays from the Pearl Harbor tragedy such as the ships, articles, pictures and the way the soldiers were dressed meaning the Japanese. A lot of artifacts were visible so people would know that these events did happen if they did not already know. Ever war that ever existed items was collected for memory, to be put into history books and placed at this museum to let it be known what happened in our history. While I was walking around and observing things it was like reliving the events because every war that took place had a display of its own which made me imagine if I was there with the soldiers.

Thoughts and summarys of the readings!!

The two days that I was in class I enjoyed the topics we discussed in class such as the things from the readings and the reflections we heard in class today. The only thing i do not like about the class is that there are some hp laptops that do not work in class which should be removed and replaced just to point that out to you. Talking about trauma I think is interesting to me because I never thought about it the way we think about it in class. There are a lot of people who suffer from these disorders but do not know what to do to treat them and I think its important to know what to do when you have these disorder.

Sometimes things does happen and they are unexpected and can catch a person off guard. Sometimes people can harm their loved ones without even knowing it, it happens( this tends to happen a lot then huh). Traumatic experiences can be a tough topic to talk about because most of the people who have this illness do not want to talk about it. When dealing with traumatic people there are a lot of different arguments that can be made between individuals such as the affect that it has on a person. When dealing with trauma it can be shocking and unexpected, but the important part about it occurring is its significant s. Anything can happen, it all starts when an event occurs and then comes the symptoms.
I guess you can say the more shocking an event or accident is to a person, is why trauma begins. There are a lot of different events that can play in a persons head over and over again because that person know deep down in their heart that they are afraid of it. Everyone has to know the certain impact of an event has on everyone involved, also including the victims family members.
Now the part about Lot's daughter's getting him drunk then sleeping with him just really confused me. Maybe during this time period it was ok to do, but I know in this time this is not acceptable at all.
